Blue Whale File System (BWFS) is a SAN file system developed by BlueWhale for the FC SAN/IP SAN environment. It can integrate multiple FC or iSCSI disk arrays into a cluster storage space to support multi-server concurrent processing. It is designed to provide high-performance and expandable file sharing services and supports various applications of multi-server work flows or under the cluster environment.
By adopting the direct data storage and access, BWFS enables users to access shared files and data directly from FC or iSCSI disk arrays. Therefore, data does not need to be transmitted from file servers or NAS units, giving full play to the SAN environment's large bandwidth. BWFS can largely improve the system's concurrent file processing capability without changing the front-end application environment and back-end SAN conditions.
Because of the Meta Data Controller (MDC) designed with a redundancy structure, BWFS enjoys high performance and availability. Coupled with the SAN basic structure, it can meet requirements of enterprise users for system reliability and data security.
Therefore, BWFS can be applied in a wide range of high-performance calculation and information processing fields including digital media, exploration data analysis, remote sensing information processing, streaming media, scientific calculation and analog simulation.
Function Feature:
1.It provides a unified storage space that enables users to share files across different operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac.
2.It adopts the direct storage and access mode and out-of-band data transmission structure to maximize the bandwidth and performance of the SAN environment, facilitating mass data storage of high-end storage systems.
3.It supports various file systems and storage strategies to meet storage requirements of different applications.
4.It enjoys strong scalability to support ZB-level storage capacity, files of 2PB at most and over 100 million catalogs and files. Users can increase storage devices to expand the system's storage capacity, IO bandwidth and processing capability without interrupting services.
5.Underpinned the patented technologies, the BWFS file system is highly reliable. Through file system logs, fast FSCK, unique file-level default isolation technical and compatibility with multiple file systems, BWFS can ensure high security for users' data. The system has been proven highly reliably through practical application in hundreds of large data application projects.
6.The system adopts the MDC with a redundancy structure and full-redundancy SAN structure, and supports multi-path configuration under the FC and iSCSI environments. Therefore, the system can prevent the single point of failure (SPOF) and ensure the high stability of the system.
7.The system is designed with client and MDC default diagnosis and performance counting functions. Therefore, it enables users to analyze causes of failures and to optimize the system's performance by analyzing IO characteristics. The embedded anti-fragment distribution allocation algorithm and online de-fragment tool can help users reduce and clear fragments caused during continuous operating of the system.
8.It supports a series of data management functions including quota, ACL, snapshot and data immigrating interface. It can be used together with third-party products to protect and store data.
9.It supports third-party disk arrays. In the multi-disk-array environment, it can either integrate all storage spaces (LUN) virtually into a unified storage space or different group LUNs into several file systems, thus providing a flexible solution to meet different needs of users. It supports multiple paths. Therefore, it can realize multi-path functions without using multi-path software, enabling users to choose disk arrays and operating systems flexibly.
10.High-performance hard disks and large-capacity SATA hard disks with a speed of 4Gb/s or 2Gb/s can be used together to realize hierarchical storage and ILM.
